(There are lots of reasons for this, but I won't get into them here.) Using DP for the eventual purpose for Finale notation is itself quite a different process from producing a DP audio project. It really doesn't take *that* long when compared to the time it takes to do the same thing in Finale. I save a copy of my DP file, then quantizing every note on and note off to tidy things up. I've expedited my process by rendering my score in DP after the pencil sketches are ready. It's a whole different mind set to engrave, and it IS time consuming to use. Right?Įnter Finale, which I've used for years.

I write for a lot of major orchestras and no DAW notation feature met their standards. I had to resign myself to the fact that DAW notation just didn't cut it. (I don't enjoy string parts that always sound like piano chords, for example.) I work a lot faster away from the piano and computer, which both limit the imagination. Before complicating any creative process with the computer, I always start with penicl, paper, and a BOX of erasers- and I most often find that a piano gets in my way. computer geek- just to keep hardware and software functioningĪll of these are full-time jobs, so it's no wonder that invidual needs can vary, and no one app does it all to everyone's satisfaction. Consider the fact that we now have the esssential tools on one computer to do a complete production from start to finish- and suddenly we find ourselves wearing several hats which don't always fit at once:Ħ.

Someone mentioned earlier that pro notation apps were not for composing. I use it more as an extension of the MIDI Edit window and not for notation itself. It is a great editing utility (for me) because it's very easy to edit non-adjacent staves in any combination. Granted, QS is not a great notation utility. Miditime: Do you have the "mistakes" preferences on or off?
